As we move into summer, Lahaina’s recovery continues to bring a mix of patience, progress, and hopeful signs.
At Lahaina Harbor, dredging is now underway for the first time in decades, and more boat operators like Pacific Whale Foundation are beginning to return. Recent West Maui water quality testing has also brought encouraging news, with researchers finding few major impacts tied directly to the wildfire.
There has been movement on land too! The Front Street railing and walkway project near the former Fleetwood’s area has been completed. Hawaiian Electric has also begun replacing aging
wooden utility poles with stronger steel and composite fiberglass poles, with some limited underground line work planned in strategic areas.
Each of these updates is another
small but meaningful step forward for Lahaina. With summer here, there are still so many ways to support local while enjoying Maui’s community events, beach days, and beautiful places to stay.
Safe Travels,
