Spring kept us on our toes this year. After two back to back Kona Low storms in March, April brought another storm. This time, the storm did not cause major new damage, but with already saturated ground and rivers running high, some areas still saw localized
flooding and flash flood concerns.
One thing we are grateful for is how much Maui has learned about organizing help quickly. The County of Maui added a dedicated section for
Kona Storm-related support and updates to their MauiRecovers.com website, which was originally created as a resource after the 2023 Fires.
For those planning a trip, most of Maui is open and welcoming! The summit of Haleakalā, Road to Hāna, and Waiʻānapanapa State Park have reopened. Here are the few storm-related closures:
Even with the damage these storms brought, the extra water has been a gift. After years of drought, it
has been refreshing to see the West Maui Mountains glowing green again.
