As we welcome spring on Maui, we’re seeing some encouraging changes, as well as ongoing challenges in our island’s recovery. Maui’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.4% in December 2024, a significant improvement from 5.6% the previous year! While this
is a positive sign, the island continues to navigate challenges in housing, tourism, and rebuilding.
On the recovery front, all fire debris has been removed from the streets
of Lahaina, with plans to begin transporting it to a permanent storage site at the Central Maui landfill in June. The process will take five months and up to 50,000 truckloads to complete, so if you plan to visit during the 2025 summer and fall months, stay tuned for how that may affect traffic in the area.
On a brighter note, March is the last full month of whale season, and it’s one of the best times to be on the water! With most calves already born, Maui’s waters are filled with mother whales and their playful young, making for some of the most active and spectacular whale-watching experiences of the year. If you haven’t yet witnessed the magic of whale
season, we hope you get the chance to soon!
Mahalo for staying connected with Maui’s journey. Your support means the world.
Safe Travels,
