The first humpback whale of the season has been spotted off the shores of Maui! That's right, whale season is here, and some boats are already catching glimpses of these majestic creatures! The official humpback whale season starts December 15th for most
boat companies and runs through April, or until the majority of whales have headed back to cooler waters.
Why do humpback whales come to Maui? Maui is like a
tropical nursery and the bedroom for these gentle giants. After feeding all summer in the nutrient-rich waters of Alaska, this set of humpback whales migrate to Maui to mate and give birth. During whale season, you'll witness fascinating behaviors as male whales compete for the attention of females, and baby calves learn to swim, breach, and dive alongside their mothers. It’s one of the most magical times of the year on Maui, and we can’t wait for you to experience it!
As we move into the holiday season, there are also exciting events happening across the island—from festive celebrations to unique local markets and activities. Below you'll discover what’s new,
including our latest blogs and tips for your next Maui adventure.
